From the mind of an exceptional Writer, Artist, & human being — DHBogucki. A bit of one of my favorite verses in scripture (John 13:34–35), inked on my skin.
Gently,
the needle glides,
my skin becomes
a perfectionist’s canvas —
a vision is born.

DHBogucki, who I lovingly call “B” blessed me with the ink you see above. I had an idea of what I wanted, pitched it to B, and he brought it to life. He’s a tattoo apprentice based in Western NC and a darn good one too! Originally published in A Cornered Gurl via Medium.
Hummingbird painting by Rocket Worley, photographed by Tremaine L. Loadholt
I am waiting on a
storm that only tempts me
with its pressure–
stalling on its landing.
I see the pearls of your eyes
glean in the sunlight,
your hummingbird love covers
me, draping me in buzzing
wings, my guardian angel,
ready to defeat the eye.
every hurricane season, I feel you
caress my untouched breasts,
beasts of past lives
saunter in, cackling at my
distorted view of us.
I am Moses rising,
my staff thrown into
the pathway of raging water,
splitting it in two.
it is there, in the midst
of Biblical anecdotes and parables
where I find a sanctified love,
one that harbors the weight
of your trembling hands.
I want more of you.
I need more of you.
you stand at the brink
of falling, my heart as a jewel
tied to your back.
you carry it to an unknown destination
and I watch your shadow
float off into space,
trekking alongside hummingbird love,
guardian angel, sent to
make me believe in the power
of the sanctification of
yearning souls.
a raging storm sweeps the city
pulls up trees and downs power lines
and a little monster who slayed dragons
and warded off a lochness sea creature
counts sheep on my bed
staring at the rise and fall of her belly
I wonder, “how much action is her brain
dishing out as she sleeps? who is she
fighting now?”
surrounded by her favorite toys
love tucks her in
and I fade into the background
lose myself in words
and wait for the storm to pass
