It always comes around when I least expect it.
And sometimes, the writer in me wishes to withdraw. But I press forward because words have healing power.
They’re also the best way I communicate and probably always will be.

Saturday, I had to meet up with our training crew from work to do some Christmas/Holiday shopping for our In-Office Agents and new Hires.
We had a blast! We went to a breakfast spot aptly named First Watch. The food was delicious and my drink (Morning Meditation) was also. We had lovely conversations and discussions as we savored the selections we chose.
We left the place with full bellies and hearts ready to stuff Christmas stockings with various do-dads and trinkets and candy!
Sam’s Club was the next destination, Target, then The Dollar Tree.
Overall, I am exhausted from the outing, but I truly enjoyed myself. And Jernee was so mad that I left without her; you can tell the judgment is being laid on thick from the expression on her face in the photos below.

Later, my cousins came over to visit. My cousin Akua (Ah-Quay-Ah) decided it would be a great idea to walk across the street and get her nails done.
Her mother-in-law and I enjoyed watching Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon while she was away.
She also left Jernee’s second favorite dog/cousin, Drake, with us. Isn’t he handsome?!

Here’s hoping you had an amazing Saturday, and that your Sunday will be a gift straight from heaven.
Peace and blessings, beautiful people.

Yesterday was Get-Myself-Together-Day, so today consisted of walking/exercising, reading, writing, watching TV, cooking, and interacting with a few friends.
And of course, it was Groom-Jernee-Day today as well.
The Little Monster loves to be clean but doesn’t like the process to achieve said cleanness. However, she has a mommy who is a bit of a neat freak and also rather anal-retentive, so she has to deal with it.
I began her grooming session by giving her a trim. Being that she’s older, her hair doesn’t grow as much as it used to. Trimming her doesn’t take long, but she gets restless, and that tends to throw a kink in things.

We managed to get this part of the grooming done in about twenty-five minutes. I bathed her; washed her twice and made sure all the remnants of soap had been rinsed thoroughly.
And then, I towel and blow-dried her hair, brushing it in between.

When it was all said and done, I took her back outside for a short walk and then brought her back upstairs so she could eat a hearty meal. She’s had a full day. But we wouldn’t have it any other way. She’s clean and happy and is sporting a new haircut, too. All is well!

Have a lovely Monday, everyone. Here’s hoping your weekend was as peaceful and relaxing as ours.
Peace and blessings.
Yesterday, I spent about 6 hours and 30 minutes at my cousin’s place getting my hair washed, and then, retwisted. The last time I had it done was Saturday, August 18, 2023, so it was well overdue. But allowing that much time before a retwist/retie afforded me a ton of new growth, so my locs also have a good length to them and bounce & body.
I am still so thrilled with this journey! My cousin will do my hair for me one more time (which will probably be in mid to late January of 2024), and I will transition to her loctician who will take over regarding the care of my hair. December 10, 2023, will be my one-year anniversary of having locs and I am VERY excited about that upcoming date!
I am a bit anxious about the transition from my cousin to her loctician, but my cousin gave me her word, “I will do your hair for one year and then hand you off to my loctician.” And, she has kept it. I’ll get one more sitting with her and then move forward. I do not know her loctician–we have never met. But if my cousin trusts her enough with her hair (and it’s gorgeous), I will lend her my mane to take care of as well. I am sure Aja will be in good hands.
And now, for a few pictures:

Now that my hair is back to a place of freshness and is clean, I can focus on giving The Little Monster a haircut and a bath later today. Be on the lookout for photos of her tomorrow.
Many of you may ask, how I feel about my locs journey now that I am nearing its one-year anniversary, and to that, I will say: I do not think I can pinpoint a time in which I’ve been happier with and about my hair, and I am so excited with every new turn that comes along with it. I stand back and look at myself in actual wonder . . . this is my hair and it’s doing something miraculously inexplicable.
And I get to age with it and grow with it, too.
That is the most beautiful thing. It truly is.
