My Emotional Journey from Menstruation to Menopause

An extremely detailed article on “medical menopause” from Janice Reid at Navigating the Change.

As a child, I had always dreaded the start of my menstruation. I had seen my mother go through it and then my sister a few years before me. By 1980, I had seen and heard enough to know I wanted no part of it. But because Mother Nature knows best, at twelve years old […]

Your Poem From Me, 1,000th Post

1,000. Okay. wOW! Thanks, WordPress Family!

This morning, upon the publishing of the sixth gift poem; “Your Poem From Me: The Giving Cause, All Abracadabra’d Out,” I received a notification from WordPress, that it was/is my 1,000th post here at A Cornered Gurl. To meet a milestone such as this one and to have a poem written for someone else as its achievement mark has truly brightened my morning. The past few days have been hard, but there is still light at the end of the tunnel.

This cause is still open and I am looking for gift poems to share. Please see the additional information below, and “Let me write a poem for you. I can give it life.”

Peace and blessings, beautiful people.

Your Poem From Me: The Giving Cause

Every Sunday at 07:00 am, I will share a poem I have written for someone who has contacted me with their request. There is no subject matter too taboo; nothing I am not willing to handle and pen for you–on your behalf (except for a few intolerable subjects). Allow me to give the world what you want the world to read, but you just can’t find the words suitable enough to meet your specifications. Your poem will be pinned to the top of my blog page via A Cornered Gurl for one week (until the next requestor’s poem is published) for others to read and share the thoughts they may have about it. What you’re afraid to share, I can share for you, in my words, giving my understanding of your request. Who knows . . . It may touch someone who needs it–it may soothe someone who yearns for it.

I am in this with you–I can host your pain, your fear, your indecisiveness, your intolerance, and your “no more fucks to give” here in this space.

If you are interested, please send an email to apoem4ufromme[at]gmail[dot]com. In the subject area, please note, “Gift Poem Request”. Please do not place your request in the comments section of this post. I will respond to your email within two business days.

Your Poem From Me Request #6

The Giving Cause: All Abracadabra’d Out

I’m all abracadabra’d out–the magic
seeps in unknowingly these days,
and I fear I can’t hold on to it
longer than a few moments.
The stars grant me a pass
to the other side of the moon, and
there is where I find growth.

Expectations don’t fill up my
list of to-dos, I calmly press
through life allowing what
will be–it’s acceptance of
such things that often reminds
me of trial and error.
I’ve tried many things–had
tons of errors, and yet, I
am still here.

The voice speaks.
I listen.

I have journeyed for decades,
gallivanting amongst comrades
and four-legged friendlies, and
have found my space in the blue
light of newness. I welcome it–its
aura embraces me, carries me to
places unknown, and I am a
bright sunbeam, warming the skies.

Within me, I’ve found things
ethereal enough to be contagious,
and I regift them annually.
I made a vow years ago
to live this life as it comes–
no need to appear apoplectic
when the world is still
spinning in the right direction.

Magic meets my lips and
I birth a kiss for it–I know
where I stand and I am
confident enough now to
step forward when
moving should take place.

The voice speaks.
I listen.

And forever, it will be.

Thank you to K. L. Laettner for allowing me to gift a poem to you. This one was a bit challenging, and I truly appreciate that. Also, this gift poem is my 1,000th post here at A Cornered Gurl.

I Can’t Say Goodbye

My beautiful cousin, most like a mom, Chrissy.

the final breath
sweeps you like a heavy rain
my heart instantly breaks

a short time here
on Earth, finally you’re
called home

they give details
of your transition–my soul
crushes without warning

you have been my
refuge for decades
how will I go on

My cousin, who contracted the Coronavirus, COVID-19 and was immunocompromised, fully vaccinated & boosted, breathed her last breath on Friday, February 18, 2022. When the call came for me to say goodbye, all I could truly say was, “I love you. I love you so much.” I’ve been crying off and on for hours on end, and I’m sure the pain won’t let up anytime soon. There’s a huge hole in my heart right now, and I’m changed forever.

Visual Verse February Published Poem

Enchanted

a mythical presence—
the girl had been
enchanted by the witch …
her curse—she’d live out her
days connected to and unable
to release herself from the
hold of the butterflies.

now, as simple as this
may seem, it is indeed
peculiar. neither the girl
nor the witch had managed
to agree to any terms
more suitable than this, so
here is where the girl stands.

one could say, “the colder weather
will surely free her for those
months,” and you’d be correct
in your thinking, however, these
butterflies have one task and
they will surely see it carried out.

how shall it be then for
the girl to live with a
hold such as this on her?
that is still to be seen.
she looks to the heavens for
some sense of relief—
none comes.

Enchanted was accepted and published for the February prompt at Visual Verse. The image from which to draw inspiration is a captivating one. You can view the poem alongside the image here.
