What an appropriate theme/prompt for this week! Shweta has really outdone herself with this one! I loved getting creative for the theme of “Gift”–the six words came straight to me without a pause or hesitation.

It’s been such an enjoyable staycation

Thanksgiving dinner: smothered turkey wings, gravy, Jasmine rice, macaroni-n-cheese, & steamed cabbage with tomatoes and onions
Jernee’s food for the week: ground turkey, corn, green beans, carrots, baked rustic potatoes, & scrambled eggs
Zumi’s food for Thanksgiving morning: ground turkey, blueberries, & turnip greens

The house drowned in the scents of shrimp, crab meat, creamy cheeses, and love.

Aunt Laura’s seafood macaroni-n-cheese is what we lived for every Thanksgiving. My cousins, Philip, Dominique, Sydney, and I attempted to sneak nibbles as soon as it floated away from the oven by our auntie’s aged, yet caring hands.

“Get outta that kitchen, y’all! I ain’t playin’!”

That’s our Nana. She means business–we don’t want her wrath. But we want that cheesy and seafood goodness ASAP, so we try again.

“IF I HAVE TO GET UP FROM THIS CHAIR, Y’ALL ARE GOING TO BE SORRY! WHAT DID I SAY?!”

Mission unaccomplished.

I woke up with the main character chiming in this morning, and I simply had to write this piece of microfiction. For those of you who celebrate, may this Thanksgiving holiday be a joyful, peaceful, loving, and blessed one for you and yours.
