All Smiles on a Saturday With Jernee, Too.

Saturday, I had to meet up with our training crew from work to do some Christmas/Holiday shopping for our In-Office Agents and new Hires.

We had a blast! We went to a breakfast spot aptly named First Watch. The food was delicious and my drink (Morning Meditation) was also. We had lovely conversations and discussions as we savored the selections we chose.

We left the place with full bellies and hearts ready to stuff Christmas stockings with various do-dads and trinkets and candy!

Sam’s Club was the next destination, Target, then The Dollar Tree.

Overall, I am exhausted from the outing, but I truly enjoyed myself. And Jernee was so mad that I left without her; you can tell the judgment is being laid on thick from the expression on her face in the photos below.

And, I’m rather partial to this one, too. For years, I would not share many photos of myself online because when I did, I would get weird & creepy messages from men (& some women). I had a complex and would often hide behind hoodies and cover my face in some kind of way. Photo Credit: Tremaine L. Loadholt

Later, my cousins came over to visit. My cousin Akua (Ah-Quay-Ah) decided it would be a great idea to walk across the street and get her nails done.

Her mother-in-law and I enjoyed watching Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon while she was away.

She also left Jernee’s second favorite dog/cousin, Drake, with us. Isn’t he handsome?!

Here’s hoping you had an amazing Saturday, and that your Sunday will be a gift straight from heaven.

Peace and blessings, beautiful people.

curry

forgotten curry
settling in the back of
the cupboard slips its way
into my line of sight
and I prepare my chicken
with it.

Some mixed peppercorn,
a bit of garlic powder,
a dash of salt, and seasoned
flour.
a meal fit for a queen and
her party of fools
dances on my sensitive
tongue.

diced potatoes, steamed
broccoli, and filtered water
to wet my whistling lips.
I fall into the beauty
that is meal prep and
the dog stands guard at
the kitchen door, waiting
for dropped morsels.

there aren’t any.

the way to my heart is …

Wednesday night dinner: bbq chicken thighs, roasted Brussels sprouts, & potatoes with onions & cheese

a homecooked meal
can shift moods–favorite
moments in my life
revolve around food.

it equals togetherness.
it is church.
it is a mutual understanding
of filling my stomach
as well as my mind.

I am a growing vessel
ready to be used for
the purposes of His will.

I cater to me–I know what
I want, and when my
body is happy, I can extend
happiness to others.

do you really want to
love me?

Writers: A Challenge

I am sharing this here as well, just in case some of you are interested in participating:

6-word Story: Where do you want to travel next?

Photo by Annie Gray on Unsplash

Hello, beautiful people! Welcome to the third challenge since A Cornered Gurl’s relaunch. What’s cracking in my brain for everyone now? We will jump into a six-word story about where you would like to travel next. It can be a place you truly foresee yourself going in the near future or a place you would like to mark off your bucket list.

And how will we do this? You guessed it! You will use six words only to tell your story.

6-word story

A six-word story is an entire story told in six words. It is a short narrative that can have all of the emotional themes of longer stories — from funny to dramatic, sad to scary. While these quick stories don’t have the classic beginning, middle, and end of a traditional storyline, they have a subject and verb that give the reader a sense of what’s happened and a bit of conflict.

MasterClass

The challenge: Writers will share where they’d like to travel next. However, use six words only to tell us about this place. Is cabin fever finally wearing you down? Do you have a place you sincerely want to go that is simply calling your name? Let us know — but come up with your story using only six words.

An example:

Tonga: an island of beauty, awaits.

Let’s get ready to master this challenge, beautiful people!

•Request to be added as a writer by emailing me at acorneredgurl[AT]gmail[DOT]com with “Please Add Me” as the subject line and please include the link to your Medium profile. Please have “6-word Story: Where do you want to travel next?” as the subtitle for your submission. CHALLENGE SUBMISSION BEGINS NOW!

It’s time to get creative and explore what we can do with six words only on where you would like to travel next!

Bring it, you amazing human beings!
