staying golden

NaPoWriMo #23 An Audio Poem

My new mug. The Golden Girls was truly a favorite show of mine growing up – I still watch reruns of the program. Photo Credit: Tremaine L. Loadholt
staying golden by Tremaine L. Loadholt

a gift to myself, but not really
from myself – courtesy of the crush . . .
birthday gift cards hit different,
especially when you can buy
all the things you’ve been eyeing
and not with your own money.

as I listened to my decaffeinated coffee
percolate and watched it trickle
down into my new favorite mug,
I wondered if it would taste better.

and, it did.

there is something orgasmic about sipping
caramelized cocoa goodness with
a hint of butter cream and
savory mocha that sends my
heart aflutter.

who knew an after-work hot
beverage would boost low morale?
I’ve needed this form of pick-me-up.
it’s hitting all the right spots as I
wait for the woman with
my heart to return home
safely.

she has captured it, you see . . .
my heart, that is. and until
I lock eyes with it
again, I am a lowly soul
tethered to her whims.

reminiscence begs for attention,
and I find myself recalling a scene
from The Golden Girls – Dorothy
mentions to Blanche the irony of
looking at oneself in the mirror
while lying down – you’re not
the same.

I know when I look at this
new mug from this moment
forward, a flicker of memories
will flood my brain, and I will
remember how it came to be
a centerpiece in my cupboard.

and I, too, will never be the same.

Something To Think About #7

I don’t remember where I saw this quote, but I immediately saved it because it is DEFINITELY something to think about.

I will share “Something To Think About” for the next nine weeks on Sunday afternoons. It may be a quote, a picture, an interesting phrase I heard, artwork, etc. Whatever I share will surely be intriguing or involving enough to spark a casual discussion or in-depth conversation. Stay tuned every Sunday for this feature!

Also, today is Jernee Timid’s 17th birthday! The Little Monster is still here! There is not a day that goes by that I am not in awe of her. She brings me peace. She gives me joy. And to this day, she still makes me laugh. I wouldn’t trade her for anything!

Happy 17th Birthday, Jernee Timid!

Home To Nowhere: Part VII

Microfiction: Kelsey’s sister, Miah (My-ah)

AI Generated Image of a little Black girl with green eyes and fiery red curls for hair. She is wearing a dark green top with a smirk on her face and is seated in front of a green background. Created with Canva.

Miah is a sister-cousin/cousin-sister, but she is clueless. She only knows her big sister Kelsey is the light of her little six-year-old world. She is temper-tantrum goodness and field trip busy. She finds Kelsey lying down on their living room couch, softly whispering to herself.

“Kels, you talkin’ to you?”

“Hey, Miah. Yes, kiddo. I’m talking to myself.”

“What you sayin’?”

“Everything’s gonna be all right.”

“Oh . . . Okay, then.”

Miah rushes toward the staircase–her fiery red hair sailing in the breeze. She is clueless, and that’s a good thing.

basics of the 8th

Aries ram . . .
respectfully, yes, I
did capture the 8th
in a colorful sphere
of creature quality
for the first
zodiac sign.

the artist touched
my heart with his
artistic discretion.
my left thigh is
home to change
that is constant.

a therapeutic session after
my therapy session that
both pained and
invigorated me opens
eyes and launches
illustrated conversations
third eyes can’t see.

I am a ram.
to put it plainly,
I breathe Aries.
my sane self greets
my insane self and
we make magic
and miracles jealous.
