NaPoWriMo #15

she wears an evil smirk
on her solemn face — lips pursed
and puckered at the same time.
how odd?! I think . . .
but she glides across the
pathway, feet floating — cloudlike
is the journey, and I watch
her wade into the waters of
my overthinking mind.

should I remind her about
the boiling pot on the
stove or the apple pie
in the oven?

neither of them can hold
her attention like I
can.

I finally snatched the chance
to shoot my shot and shot
it with precision and purpose.

being friends first helped us.
and although a “yes”, is not
the answer . . . the door is n o t
closed to further discussion.

the crush crushes, too.
and loving me is important to her.
losing me she doesn’t want to see.

I now know the gift of being
held in high regard by someone
who secretly crushed on
me, too.

I will share “Something To Think About” for the next eight weeks on Sunday afternoons. It may be a quote, a picture, an interesting phrase I heard, artwork, etc. Whatever I share will surely be intriguing or involving enough to spark a casual discussion or in-depth conversation. Stay tuned every Sunday for this feature!

Women: Where It All Starts

A free verse poem

IWD: Outlook

wombed love for
human beings who
shoot forth into
a world of anger, hatred,
and fueled fires,
women: where it all
starts . . .

cultivating peace during
“unprecedented times” and
damaged due dates,
we breathe life into
misunderstood nations and
dynasties on their way
to the foul-smelling bowels
of hell.

without us, crumbles
would gather under our feet
of lineages and legacies
too weak to stir
their own tea.

Happy International Women’s Day!

What Would You Say First In Your Autobiography?

You’re writing your autobiography. What’s your opening sentence?

My original due date, relayed to my teenage mother, was April 1st, however, I was two weeks late–while still in the womb, I knew I wouldn’t be anyone’s fool, and I was right.

I tell people all the time about how I was two weeks late coming into this world, but I’ve been on time ever since. And I make it my life’s work to NOT be anyone’s fool.

If I could dodge an April Fools’ due date, I can avoid being a habitual fool for anyone.
