Saturday Six Word Story Prompt: Believe

Prompt for Week #111 (Nov 9, 2024 – Nov 15, 2024): BELIEVE

Title: Not By the Hands of Man

Six Words: A H I G H E R Power will save US.

I have missed actively participating in the Six Word Story Prompt (hosted by another blogger/Writer who no longer blogs). Years ago, it’s how I met so many other bloggers/writers/creatives, and I still love a good six-word story, so it is only right that I participate in Shweta Suresh’s Saturday Six Word Story Prompt! This week’s theme is “Believe” and here are the prompt details:

Welcome to Week #111 of the Saturday Six Word Story Prompt. Click here to read the guidelines for the Saturday Six Word Story Prompt series. (Psst! I have changed the guidelines recently.)

Prompt for Week #111 (Nov 9, 2024 – Nov 15, 2024)

Believe

Click here for the 6WSP image.

I will do a roundup post each Saturday (or Sunday if I run out of time!). So please be sure to participate before time runs out! I can’t wait to read your stories. 😀 I hope that you’ll be back for next week’s Six Word Story Prompt. Have fun! Thank you for participating. Until next week, folks!

P.S: If you have any doubts/suggestions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. The comments section is all yours!

P.P.S: Use the tag 6WSP and don’t forget to pingback to this post!

My six-word contribution is above. I fully believe the worst is ahead, yet the best is to come. We cannot depend on man. Man will never save us. If our faith, trust, and commitment are to/for man, we are doomed. I hope you will participate in the prompt and lend your very own six-word story to the theme, Believe.

Peace and blessings, beautiful people.

“Do Gerbils Love?”

Flash Fiction

“Do gerbils love?” Paul pondered as he spent what could be his last moments breathing next to the love of his life, Sophie. The two were a pair of hopeless half-wizards and even though their hearts were recently connected, it felt like they had been in love for centuries.

Maybe in a past life?
Maybe in a past spell?

Whatever it was, Paul stood there with an invisible rope binding him in place–the slightest movement was an act of severe futility. Would Humphrey turn him into a gerbil, an elephant, a gecko, or the latest edition of Better Homes & Gardens magazine?

Whatever he was going to be, he wished for the ability to love. And to continue to love Sophie, too. But what would she be? If Humphrey could turn them into anything under the natural sun, what spell would he conjure up for his beloved Sophie?

The dank air of the firm’s office swirled around the hostages as Humphrey laughed maniacally from his throne. A snap of his finger . . . a flush of his lips . . . a slap of his left hand to his right ear and then . . .

*POOF*

They would all waddle like ducks waffling around for a place to find comfort.

As he snapped back to life from his daydream, the bulky image of Humphrey approaching him increased in size. His jowls hung viciously on his face, and his razor-sharp teeth barked out of his mouth.

He gawked at Paul with the intent to do bodily harm and whispered, “Now, where were we, you insolent fool?”

“Gerbils,” said Paul. “Gerbils . . . do they love?”

I am currently reading, The Portable Door by Tom Holt, and a particular phrase in this book (the title of this story) shook something alive in my brain. What you have just read is the product. I am nearly done with the book, and I cannot wait to write the review for it, too!

“Take Life 15 Minutes At a Time.”

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

I usually do not answer the daily prompt questions, but this one, I just could not pass up.

The best advice I have ever been given came from one of my older cousins who told me “Take life 15 minutes at a time.”

She stated this because I was having a horrible day that seemed as though it would seep into my weekend, and in her stern yet casual way, she simply let it roll off her tongue and it sunk in for me.

The well-known saying is “One day at a time”, but a full day is 24 hours. That is a HUGE CHUNK of time to try and press through without faltering or falling short of goals.

But to breathe and take on fifteen minutes at a time in life is a much better concept. And I have used this method for the last eight years.

My best friend likes to believe she was the one who told me this, but she was not. Lol! I distinctively remember my cousin with her no-nonsense speech and the swag of a Queen who held all the tricks in the palm of her hand tell me this bit of advice, and I shared it with my best friend.

Needless to say, I use it as advice for others who feel like they’re losing their way. I will typically say, “Breathe . . . and take life fifteen minutes at a time.” I also let them know my cousin lent the same advice to me and it works.

When I am steadfast in applying it and I give myself the grace I need, it truly works.

Maybe you will find this to be applicable for you and your life, too. I hope you will.

Do not try to tackle a full day at a time. Take it in little chunks–15 minutes. And breathe.

Autumn is finally here! Let’s celebrate that fact, shall we?!

Peace and blessings.

WordPress Glitches

Typically, on Tuesdays, I share a snapshot of a person, place, thing, etc that I’ve taken during the previous week to share. However, WordPress is glitching and I’ve not been able to upload the image I wish to share for today.

If it decides to act like it has some sense later on today, I’ll share that photo at that time. If not, I’ll allow more time before attempting to share any additional images. Right now, it appears to be an issue with uploading and copying/pasting photos in the blogging/content space to share.

I don’t have time to tinker around with WordPress during the week. My day job lends me enough stress and I SURELY will not have an activity of mine I love to take part in during most evening hours give me any stress. No, thank you!

Prayerfully, this will all be sorted before my next posting date which is Thursday, February 22, 2024.

Stay tuned, beautiful people!
