hot flashes and spring

humidity is hovering
in the still dark air,
and I’m hot-flashing
out of nowhere,
yearning for a cool down.

summer is peeking
through the soon-to-be intensely
hotter weeks, trying to
make an earlier
appearance, and
I just want to walk
without sweat
congregating between my legs.

it’s going to be
another year of
panting like the dog,
as the dog days
arrive before they’re
due.

I drummed up this piece yesterday morning via notes on Substack. These little creative snippets come to me every day, and I am grateful for them. They’re getting me through the go-through.

Have you gotten your copy of my new book: a collection of serial tales & flash fiction, Séduire (E-Book and Paperback) yet?

I recently signed up to write on Substack as well. Poking the Bear’s Belly for Fun is a place of healing as I speak about the most recent events with my place of employment as it pertains to racism and discrimination. I welcome your visit.

A two-for-one special post

Saturday morning workout. I decided to cool down in the aerobics room. The fitness room was getting a little too crowded for my taste. And by “crowded,” I mean, two other people came in there. LOL! Saturday, April 19, 2025. Photo Credit: Tremaine L. Loadholt
Besides, the aerobics room has the best mirror effects. LOL! Saturday, April 19, 2025. Photo Credit: Tremaine L. Loadholt
Saturday’s lunch: cheesy baked potatoes with/ onions, and turnip greens. Also, a few strips of bacon. Saturday, April 19, 2025. Photo Credit: Tremaine L. Loadholt
Zumni Tye was actually watching me move about our living room–gathering things and cleaning up. I stopped and snapped a photo because I was in total disbelief. 💙♥️💛 My tortoise baby is growing up! Saturday, April 19, 2025. Photo Credit: Tremaine L. Loadholt
Please don’t ask me why she looks like she has lost her VERY best friend. Jernee is attitudinal these days. I never know what I am going to get when she wakes up. I just deal with it. She’s 17- she has earned the right to be a super duper grouch, and I will just be okay with it. LOL! Saturday, April 19, 2025. Photo Credit: Tremaine L. Loadholt
I did not go to the fitness room on Sunday. I decided to do a 2-mile walk around my neighborhood instead. I was feeling bound up and a bit more stressed than normal, so being outside in the early morning breeze was better than being cooped up in the fitness room in the basement. Sunday, April 20, 2025. Oh, nothing… It’s just me and my shadow passing through the crosswalk. Sunday, April 20, 2025. Photo Credit: Tremaine L. Loadholt
I simply wanted to capture the view. Sunday, April 20, 2025. Photo Credit: Tremaine L. Loadholt

in the heat of the glory days & sun-soaked nights

haven’t had the pleasure
to enjoy basking in
the goodness of a secret shared
in decades – my glory days
and sun-soaked nights are
winding down.

soon, I’ll spend them with
a sandman who knows all
about losing sleep over
full lips instead of a
broken heart.

Jernee was really trying to get a good sniff. LOL! I heard some bees buzzing near us, so I quickly pulled her away from their homestead. Photo Credit: Tremaine L. Loadholt

spring-summer-winter?

NaPoWriMo #7 Haiku, 3 Parts

spring-summer-winter
which one is here currently
confused by weather

a balmy sun speaks
pollen sticks to our faces
cold air comes again

the body is weak
from changes upon changes
which season will stay

Photos From This Past Weekend

This is from my Friday evening walk after work. I did 2 miles before eating dinner and after walking Jernee, and getting her and Zumi fed. Friday, March 21, 2025. Photo Credit: Tremaine L. Loadholt
This is also from my Friday evening walk after work. This is going to be a new Korean BBQ spot right across from my apartment building. Friday, March 21, 2025. Photo Credit: Tremaine L. Loadholt

Zumi is such a greedy tortoise. We celebrated its “Gotcha Day” on Sunday, March 23, 2025, as the 23rd of March of last year was when I brought this little cutie home. However, this photo is from Saturday. Saturday, March 22, 2025. Photo Credit: Tremaine L. Loadholt
Saturday evening would not have been perfect if I had not gotten a shot of the Queen. LOL! Jernee was resting and knocked down her pillow moving around too much in her bed. Saturday, March 22, 2025. Photo Credit: Tremaine L. Loadholt
Sunday morning workout. On this day, I exercised the longest I’ve done so in a couple months. I did an hour. I typically do 35-45 minutes most weekends in the fitness room. Sunday, March 23, 2025. Photo Credit: Tremaine L. Loadholt
Sunday night capture. Jernee loves a good sniff around the grassy areas, and this seemed like the perfect capture, so I snapped a photo. Sunday, March 23, 2025. Photo Credit: Tremaine L. Loadholt

This past weekend gifted me a bit of peace, rest, time to read, and some beautiful weather in which to walk. I am happy the weekend was kind to me. But again, it was not long enough. LOL! I hope the week ahead will be a blessing to each of you. Thank you for stopping by!
