neighbors II

my next door neighbors
moved on from this place–rent’s
too high, and they’re too young to
keep struggling without a
sense of purpose.

both of them chose to
move back home for a few months,
maybe a year, maybe more.
I’m going to miss seeing
their smiling faces, watching
them mature even more
as the years gather themselves
one after the other.

who will I be saddled with
next door now?
will they be compassionate?
will they be respectful?
will they be okay with dogs?

so many questions, and the
cleaning crew hasn’t even
started preparing the unit
for walkthroughs.

settle down, brain.
settle down.

Your Poem From Me Request #11

The Giving Cause: I Am No One’s Number One

Senryu, 6 Parts

bound by wayward hands
this–a life I did not seek
breaks my lonely heart

never a first choice
played with and sought after when
life seems relentless

he didn’t pick me
he didn’t pick me either
do I still matter

I shouldn’t give up
it’s my positive outlook
but I do worry

will I die alone
never knowing heart’s true love
or will I bounce back

I haven’t lost faith
men whisper about my smile
I’m still a good catch

Thank you Clay Rivers for giving me the opportunity to gift this poem to you, and for being vulnerable enough to request it. I hope I’ve done your request justice. Peace and blessings.

Your Poem From Me Requests #9

The Giving Cause: The Humble Mumbles of a Perfectly Imperfect Single Mom

No one ever said this
would be easy, and I’m not
complaining, I’m simply
expressing what I feel . . .
what burns deep within me.
A single mom is the first
person their child sees in
the morning, and the last
one to caress their shoulders
at night.

She is the chaperone, the referee,
the teacher, the creative arts director,
the analyzer, and PTA attendee,
the cook, the cleaner, and anything
you can dream up, and more.

And when she’s tired, her day
doesn’t shift to meet her needs,
it simply fades into something
between two things: less busy
or a chaotic mess.

I can’t summon perfection
at my whim but I will do everything
in my power to provide what’s
best for my children.
They will know the meaning
of truth and its importance,
what a strong foundation is,
and how to operate effectively
in life.

They will lift their heads up,
holding them high, unashamed
of who they are and what they do.
And I will Mama-Bear the first
person who has anything
outlandish to say about them–
pummel them to a pulp.

My children are mine, and I
will protect them from the
world’s unrelenting wrath.
And when I can’t, the pieces
of my heart broken off and
shared with them will
sustain them accordingly,
providing the strength they need
to stand on their own.

I have done/am doing what
I can to give this world
decent human beings to
further its existence. I am
shaping the shifting Mini-Mes
who are more fluid than water
itself–breaking into the fold,
ready to take on
whatever comes their way.

When the day comes when I
relieve them of the nest,
I will stand back, admire their
first flight, and watch them
soar.
Secretly, in hushed whispers
to myself, I’ll say . . .

“I did that.”

Thank you to Melissa Ross for allowing me to gift a poem to you. I truly enjoyed birthing this poem. I hope it is what you want it to be.

Your Poem From Me, 1,000th Post

1,000. Okay. wOW! Thanks, WordPress Family!

This morning, upon the publishing of the sixth gift poem; “Your Poem From Me: The Giving Cause, All Abracadabra’d Out,” I received a notification from WordPress, that it was/is my 1,000th post here at A Cornered Gurl. To meet a milestone such as this one and to have a poem written for someone else as its achievement mark has truly brightened my morning. The past few days have been hard, but there is still light at the end of the tunnel.

This cause is still open and I am looking for gift poems to share. Please see the additional information below, and “Let me write a poem for you. I can give it life.”

Peace and blessings, beautiful people.

Your Poem From Me: The Giving Cause

Every Sunday at 07:00 am, I will share a poem I have written for someone who has contacted me with their request. There is no subject matter too taboo; nothing I am not willing to handle and pen for you–on your behalf (except for a few intolerable subjects). Allow me to give the world what you want the world to read, but you just can’t find the words suitable enough to meet your specifications. Your poem will be pinned to the top of my blog page via A Cornered Gurl for one week (until the next requestor’s poem is published) for others to read and share the thoughts they may have about it. What you’re afraid to share, I can share for you, in my words, giving my understanding of your request. Who knows . . . It may touch someone who needs it–it may soothe someone who yearns for it.

I am in this with you–I can host your pain, your fear, your indecisiveness, your intolerance, and your “no more fucks to give” here in this space.

If you are interested, please send an email to apoem4ufromme[at]gmail[dot]com. In the subject area, please note, “Gift Poem Request”. Please do not place your request in the comments section of this post. I will respond to your email within two business days.
