Something To Think About #4

Grief is a robber of happiness but not of life.

“It’s the one thing, I believe, that makes us human . . .
it makes us more compassionate if we let it.”

I will share “Something To Think About” for the next twelve weeks on Sunday afternoons. It may be a quote, a picture, an interesting phrase I heard, artwork, etc. Whatever I share will surely be intriguing or involving enough to spark a casual discussion or in-depth conversation. Stay tuned every Sunday for this feature!

Peace and blessings.

Left-handed in a Dream

A Haibun

She dreamt she was left-handed – sun tilting just right on her pale skin. Did it make her wise? Was she on a spiritual journey? Would she wake up left-handed? She hadn’t realized just how quickly life was flashing before her eyes. A race stood before her, but her legs were tired of running. The dream wouldn’t be the end of this conundrum. When your mother names you “Memory”, dreams are the last things on your mind.

right-handed she was
but left in a dream deferred
breaking past curses

An update on Jernee: Jernee’s vet visit was yesterday for the seizure she had last Sunday. They did blood work and did an overall checkup, too. Her vet said her left back paw has a delayed reflex response, which is a spinal cord issue and can be coming from her brain (possible growth or tumor). To determine what’s going on and confirm a growth or tumor, an MRI is recommended. The cost is expected to be anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000.00. This only confirms if there’s a growth or a tumor; this does not prevent the seizures, and neither would the medication if she is prescribed medication (it only stops the frequency of them and may make them milder).

For now (as per the vet’s request), I’ll monitor her, keep a seizure log, and if they happen more frequently and last longer, we can discuss end-of-life options. I am going to buy a camera and set it up in my living room, so there will be video coverage of Jernee while I am away at work. I want to make sure my baby isn’t having any seizures when I am not at home. And now . . . I miss working from home. *Sighs* Such is life and life still won’t defeat me.

I cannot tell you how overjoyed I am to still receive outpouring love for Séduire: Serial Tales & Flash Fiction. It’s overwhelmingly enjoyable, and I am thankful for everyone who has reached out to me via text message, email, or this blog to let me know just how pleased they are with this collection. I am open and honest about this book; I think it is my best one to date. Honestly, I do not know if I can outdo it. But I aim to try. And perhaps another collection of fictional tales will be unleashed into the ether sometime next year?

We shall see. Until then, please continue to follow me for updates about Séduire: Serial Tales & Flash Fiction and its success. Here are a few more reviews for your research and reading pleasure.

Goodreads:

A review was shared by the lovely and talented K.E. Garland, who took it upon herself to create a page on Goodreads for Séduire so that she could review it there, too. She is NOT waiting for Amazon to do its job. LOL!
Sun is a powerhouse writer herself, so to read this review by her really made my heart melt.

Lulu:

Candice Louisa DaQuin is a lovely human being I’ve known for a bit over a decade now, and I adore her heart, mind, and way with words.
Pooja is such a prolific contributor to the WordPress community. I am honored to have her words beside my work.

Thank you to everyone taking the time to invest in my heartwork. It means the sun, moon, stars, and galaxy to me.

Women: Where It All Starts

A free verse poem

IWD: Outlook

wombed love for
human beings who
shoot forth into
a world of anger, hatred,
and fueled fires,
women: where it all
starts . . .

cultivating peace during
“unprecedented times” and
damaged due dates,
we breathe life into
misunderstood nations and
dynasties on their way
to the foul-smelling bowels
of hell.

without us, crumbles
would gather under our feet
of lineages and legacies
too weak to stir
their own tea.

Home To Nowhere: Part VIII

Microfiction: This is life, and it’s not so bad.

AI Generated Image of a Black teenage girl with blue eyes and curly hair styled in a half-bob. She is wearing a soft blueish-grey top with an indifferent look on her face while in front of a colorful background. Created with Canva.

Two years have passed, and Kelsey is enjoying year sixteen under a roof with loving and caring parents and two siblings who swing joy in her direction daily. She is cousin-sister/niece-daughter and a quizzically inquiring teenager who has learned to live outside her shell.

She plays soccer, basketball, volleyball, and runs track. Her world is mythical and magical; therapy is a safe haven for her sleepless mind. She will never know her biological parents. She looks into Kazi’s eyes and sees Kamal. She thumbs through old photo albums of Kimya’s and smiles at Leila.

She can’t change her history, so she becomes it.

“I am loved. I have love. I will be love.”

And so she is.

Thank you for coming on this journey with me for Home To Nowhere. I hope you’ve enjoyed this series. Peace and blessings.
