to ward off
heartache, I can
because I can.

Valentine’s Day isn’t a favorite holiday of mine. Love should be shared and expressed every day. There doesn’t need to be a special day to show that you love, care, adore, and wish to be kind and give to your loved ones and others.
But, here we are.
Addendum: for those of you wondering about the garlic and honey, it’s a natural medicine. It has major health benefits and is rather inexpensive as well. Here’s a YouTube (one of many) about it.
I knew I was getting old when canning became one of my fav pastimes and this was at about 35. LOL

Lol I love it! That’s okay. We’re getting older but we’re getting better, too!

This is definitely some back home remedies. I still see my mum walking to her herb garden and picking stuff to brew, when she feels a little off on mornings. Didn’t do prescriptions when I was growing up… pure bush 😆

Aye! And most times, those are the BEST remedies! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

They’re always the best, though they may not act the quickest lol. I had a friend from Kenya who got bitten by a snake, and treated it with garlic immediately. Until we could take him to the hospital. I realized that day, that I shouldn’t question my Mum’s green pharmacy, lol

I did it with green tomatoes, pumpkin & mustard seeds, I loved it! I was eating the stuff for a year or more! I shall have to try more, like your pickles here, oh yes!😫😛

Ooh … I didn’t know you were into canning! A few years ago, we planted lots of vegetables and canned a lot of them. We still have some canned beetroot from that time.
How interesting that I’m reading about garlic and honey on your blog today! Last night, I felt a tickle in my throat and ate two cloves of garlic with raw honey. Felt fine when I got up.
Enjoy your Sunday, Tre!

Yaaasss! It’s such a quick antidote for what ails you! I’m glad you’re feeling better!
I actually just got into canning. I kept thinking it would be time-consuming so I never did it. It’s such a relaxing time-consuming task that I know I’m just going to fall in love with it. 😂😆🤣

Do you simply sniff those concoctions of do you ingest them. The first one sounds like it would just knock you out 😂. Homemade remedies are a big thing with us from the Caribbean.

Lol. I’ll be eating them over time, of course.
Being knocked out will probably be helpful. 😂😆🤣

We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, but we sure do celebrate homemade canned goods.

🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 I think I’m going to can peaches and apples next. Or pears and apples. I’ll have to look to see what I need to do for them and then put my own twist on canning them.

Here we are and I am glad to be in this space with you, trE. Canning is a wonderful, life-sustaining activity. 😊

Garlic and honey were just one of my parents’ home remedies during my childhood. Ever had orange juice, honey, and whiskey? Better than NyQuil! 😂 With nine children, they were not running to the doctor’s every time someone sneezed or coughed! 😄
I haven’t canned much since becoming an empty-nester and a widow, but the kids whine for pepper jelly every few months so my canning kit still gets a workout! 😉

I have never had that home remedy before that I can recall, but one of my grannies may have given it to me in my toddler years.

Clever poem! Also, the thought of garlic in honey has never crossed my mind until today. It feels peculiar in my imagination… the kind of curiosity that will force me to experiment. 🙂

Thank you! Honeyed garlic is supposed to be a great overall health concoction. I’m going to put it to the test.

The hyped commercialism of the holuday is ridiculous. Like i said for us it’s every day. Any given thing, food, note, dancing, movie watching…all normal everyday thing. Garlic in honey sounds intriguing to me. The pickles sound too spicy.

The seasoning of the pickles were for added flavor. I don’t really think they’re going to be as spicy. Today, I’m adding brown sugar to the mixture (1 teaspoon).
I had a WHOLE restaurant, one of my favorite spots, tell me they were NOT taking To-Go orders last night. The place is across the street and has some of the best sushi and teriyaki combo meals. I was lightweight hurt, like how is my single woman money not good enough for y’all tonight?! It has really gotten outta control.
I ended up going to Five Guys Burgers & Fries, instead, but my mouth was ready for sushi and teriyaki chicken & shrimp.

Oh that sucks and is quite odd for a restaurant to skip on take out. I mean maybe couples would prefer that as well as opposed going to the restaurant. But maybe they were strictly serving meals for 2 last night night.

It’s a pretty popular restaurant and I’ve never in my life been to any establishment where they didn’t service their To-Go patrons, too. I’m thinking it was probably a staffing issue, but Valentine’s lands on the 14th of February every year, they should have planned accordingly.
I ranted to my best friend about it last night and she made me feel a whole lot better. I’m going to get sushi from them in a bit.

You wrote a little haiku or senryū there. I love pickles. They look delicious.🤤

I am more of a 5-7-5 haiku or senryu gal, so I really just classify this as micropoetry.
But, I know many would lean toward haiku or senryu.
And I DEF love pickles! I’m eager to see how this batch will taste!
