Two poems shared on Substack notes

a means to an end
Bones… a show I
can watch over and
over again–the
reruns are salve;
balm for my
crowded mind–a
distraction.
sometimes, on
heavy days, a
distraction is what
I need.
to witness complex
cases, albeit fatal
fiction, I disappear
in their plot twists
and fall victim to
their endings.
funny how the things
that gross me out
in my dreams
invigorate me while
I’m awake.
who’s murdering
who is more than
a pertinent question,
it’s a means to
an end.

a body for sale (on clearance)
I’m at an age now
when a hard and
awkward sleep can
throw my back out
or a sneeze from the
depths of my soul
can summon
tinnitus.
the body is a weird
thing to observe.
how fragile we can
become when we
think we’re at our
strongest.
we can be swiftly
reminded of just how
easy it is to injure
oneself without
force or torture.
depreciating value…
like a brand new
vehicle the moment
you drive it off the
lot.
clearanced and
marked down,
wanted only
because we’re now
cost-effective and a
hot commodity.
everyone wants the
cheapest version of
you.
Have you gotten your copy of Séduire: Serial Tales & Flash Fiction at Lulu in E-Book & Paperback versions, or Amazon in Paperback (only) yet?
I am on Substack as well. Poking the Bear’s Belly for Fun is a place of healing, as I discuss recent events related to my previous place of employment, including racism and discrimination, the growth I experienced after resigning from that company, and the foibles and overall experiences of life. I welcome your visit.

To have that awkward moment then I remember coffee exists in the kitchen, and it’s silently yelling, hey, 👋, come over here, I can help you at least get started but not the entire day…. And having no other options, you got to take the temporary win.

I be like how I went to bed to rest and wake up unrested and injured? 🤕 I be waking in the morning, looking at the bed with a stare, like this was not in the contract. What did you do to me? Fix it. I have to go to work in a few.

Haha! Yeah… The older we get, the more frequent this becomes. Stay vigilant and as healthy as you can be!

It’s a pretty darn good show. I realized I hadn’t seen all of Season 12, which I believe, was the last season. I am DEF going to watch at least 3 episodes of it today (time permitting.).

You go lady! I need to see where I can watch it. And then will do some binging, too 😁

A fitting set of poems. In April (left foot) and November (right foot) I had surgery to correct the bad bones structure I was born with. I liked Bones too.

trE — I really feel this pair. I know that pull toward distraction on heavy days, and “everyone wants the cheapest version of you” hit uncomfortably close for me.
Much love,
David

Thanks for reading, David. Yeah… the older I get, the more I recognize people who want the watered down version of me, and I steer clear of them. If you can’t accept the totality of me, you were/are not meant to be in my life.
