I’ve never defeated the terror within . . .
I fight it and fight it and fight it, yet – its
presence is still a drumming obstacle
I cannot clear.
if I signal peace and strength, one
usually defeats the other, but this
“beast of burden” carries on inside
me like it owns the place.
I am at its mercy whether I want to
be or not.

This line… urghhh!!! There are days I just have to close my eyes a little longer. There is a war raging, and I’m barely functional.

Everyone who tells us how strong we are never think about how it is categorically unfair of anyone to come to expect us to be strong All The Freaking Time.
No one asked us to be strong! It’s not like we had a choice in the matter!
I call on everyone everywhere to go check up on their “strong friends”.

Glad you wrote this. I feel too vulnerable to really share what it brought up for me; sometimes things are so terrifying that other’s responses are also terrifying, and that’s what keeps them so stuffed-down, but to be able to elucidate via writing as you have; that’s really brave and real and why among other reasons, I hold you always as a light and have so much faith in you.
