spinning

spinning from hatred
reports filed for one’s own good
human resources
a department that brings calm
or can disrupt peacefulness

It’s World Poetry Day! I hope you can find the time to birth a new poem from your beautiful mind.

This tanka was written to briefly describe the fact that I recently filed a report to HR for the racial tension and discrimination my co-workers and I have experienced regarding our new supervisor over the last few days at work.

I have NEVER had to involve Human Resources at any job I ever had. But, unfortunately, there’s a first time for everything. Happy Friday!

Peace and blessings.

  • Like you I’ve never had to call HR, but they’ve been sent in my direction before. There is no reason to tolerate any form of discrimination. I’m glad you put your foot down rather than raising your fists up. I’m praying for a speedy resolution to this. Work environs must be a happy place, since we spend most of our time there.

    • Unfortunately, HR pretty much swept it under the rug. They’re sitting in on our meetings with her and they did so yesterday and got a pretty good taste of me and my co-workers handing our new supervisor her hind-end because she lied through her teeth and played the victim about us going to HR and we were NOT going to take that.

Needless to say, they’re about to lose 3 great workers because they have failed to address the issue with a racist one.

      • Oh dear… it’s a sad state of affairs when those at the top draw lines against the workforce..but as my boss always tells me, im.just a number on a file, and replaceable, so always look out for myself. At least he’s straight up.
God has somewhere valuable where he needs you, Tre.
We move on with confidence. 🙏

      • Oh, the second part of this is going up shortly. I honestly have no worries. I’ve had such a strong work ethic over the years that my reputation precedes me.

  • WOW trE, some things never cease to amaze me. 😖 This is freaking unbelievable, but karma is a bitch! Just keep your records, just in case you need them for further reference. Appalling! 🤬

  • Oh this riles me… It’s like people are feeling empowered to be openly racist now, with naked white supremacy in charge. This is hard for a cynic but I hope some humanity and self-awareness emerges from this supervisor and you will want to stay. It’s heartbreaking to be forced out of a job you once loved; I still have nightmares about my own experiences. May the light shine. 🪔

    • Thank you, Sun. I hope the light shines brightly soon.

The beautiful thing about my placement is that I work at a site where I used to work before working from home (I just transferred from one department to another & radiology scheduling is a WFH department), so the center manager has told me twice if the company that I work for now (it is contracted with them to use their site for genetic testing for cancer, which is what I’ve been doing since December) doesn’t address this issue properly and the supervisor stays and continues her antics, she’ll create a job for me there to keep me “home”, because the site really is home for me.

So truthfully, I’m blessed. I don’t have to worry about the outcome because I will have a position created for me, I truly love what I do. But I won’t tolerate ignorance or hatred in any form; blanketed or not.

I’ll keep you all updated, though. 🙏🏾🩵

  • Damn girl, this sucks but good for you for speaking up and filing. It is truly exasperating! And what do you attribute this to? Care to share more… does Will come Pickering? Do you know that right?! 💓👍🏽😩🙌🏽

    • “And what do you attribute this to? Care to share more…”

I’m not sure what this means exactly, but if you’re asking what exactly took place or why my new supervisor is racist . . . it seems to be ingrained in her. She has no wherewithal that what she’s saying or doing is inappropriate and discriminatory and racist. And that can be a number of factors. We are in The South, but folks aren’t generally this ignorant in professional settings.

      • Well good you reported her and I hope you outlined each one so it can’t be ignored. It’s amazing this is still happening in this day and age on every level! It’s unconscionable!

      • I most definitely did outline, explain, and bring attention to each instance of which HR needed to be aware.

But oh, dear lady, I wish you didn’t have to be! 💚💚💚

  • I’m sorry you are having to deal with that. My supervisor could write a book on the micro aggressions she’s been on the receiving end of from her supervisor. I was appalled by some of the things she told me. Juneteenth gifts anyone? I hope your HR department will be able to improve this situation for you!
