A free verse poem

wombed love for
human beings who
shoot forth into
a world of anger, hatred,
and fueled fires,
women: where it all
starts . . .
cultivating peace during
“unprecedented times” and
damaged due dates,
we breathe life into
misunderstood nations and
dynasties on their way
to the foul-smelling bowels
of hell.
without us, crumbles
would gather under our feet
of lineages and legacies
too weak to stir
their own tea.
“Zoe Saldaña wins her first Academy Award for best supporting actress in Emilia Pérez” because she truly deserves it! And the way she cried out for her mother had me in T E A R S!
This was so powerful.

Very much so. I don’t think a Women’s Day has ever moved me as much as this year’s, and Zoe’s speech was indeed wonderful.

Omg! I didn’t see her in this movie yet, but she was so fiercely wonderful in Lioness!! She truly rocks! I’m so glad she won 🏆

Lioness was EVERYTHING! And I’m watching Emilía Pérez now. It is truly involved and so well done. I’ve felt so many emotions so far and I am certain the ending is either going to tear me up or break me down.

This poem powerfully encapsulates the multifaceted role of women, particularly in the face of global turmoil. The opening lines, “wombed love for / human beings who / shoot forth into / a world of anger, hatred,” immediately establish the paradox: the source of life and love existing within a world of conflict. The juxtaposition of “wombed love” with the harsh realities of “anger, hatred, / and fueled fires” is striking and effective.
…and love me some Zoe Saldana. Good on her (and good on you too, trE)

Aww, thank you so much, Rhyan! I really love how you give feedback for the work of others. You really break down what you read and I appreciate that.
Sometimes, that’s not always easy to do. 🙏🏾🩵

Some day you’ve got to record this one, trE, but it’s so powerful to have Zoe’s voice and fierce tears here; what a moment! And yes, Cancer Sun that I am, I got soooo emotional for her calling out to all her mothers… 😭 Happy Women’s Day!
