81 years of your words
channeling ties to writers
before you–Baldwin, your
brother-in-verse can breathe
easier now.
heaven has its two wordplayers
in one space again, what will
it do?
we’ll miss your timeless
poetry, your swaying voice,
and your infectious smile.
holiday havoc meshes with
upcoming winter cheer, and
a world without you can
only hold on to your spirit.
you fade into black . . .
your final number,
an encore.
Rest in Power, Nikki Giovanni. Your words live on–and through them, so do you. Amen.
Beautiful Tre! May she rest in peace.

What a beautiful ode to our dear Nikki. I have a post scheduled for next week to honor her too. A friend and I went to Queens University to hear her speak during BHM several February’s ago. She will be missed. 😥🙏🏼😩

My Great-Aunt used to teach at QC years ago. When I was visiting her one summer, I got the opportunity to sit in on a few of her classes. It was quite the eye-opener. She introduced me to every class that day, and I was MORTIFIED 😩😩😩.
I was 18 years old, and was going to be attending Georgia Southern University in the fall. It gave me a feel of what college courses would be like. That part I truly appreciated.

WOW trE, what an opportunity to shadow your great-aunt in college! 😲 Not too many people I know have had such an experience. I can only imagine how mortified you were. It is clearly a different experience, but so rewarding at that! You are truly standing on the shoulders of some strong and amazing women my friend. 😍👨🏼🎓🥰🙏🏼🤗

Thank you, lady! Yes! I’m grateful to her. She’s an incredible orator who has written several books and travels all around the world, and she still mentions me in some of her talks . . . I’m the niece who writes and has some of the same literary interests, i.e., the oddball out in my family. 😂🤣😆
I don’t take it for granted. I truly do not.

AMEN trE! And honey, being the oddball is an honor, and an asset, trust me I know! 🤔 So, cheers to the oddballs my dear! We’re one of a kind for sure! 🤗🥂🥰

Beautiful: I’ve heard of her but don’t think I’ve ever read one of her poems — ,my loss; Bart introduced us to ‘Bicycles’: I loved it straight away; shall check out more of her poems —
