A quadrille
children kick balls
on the resurfaced street,
dressed for winter.
the dog sleeps, wakes
to be walked and fed.
I watch cartoons–animated
movies with Christmas trees
taller than my building
on screen.
season of giving
crash-landed . . .
I’m not ready for it.
are you?
*The piece reads better going directly to the website: https://acorneredgurl.com. The WordPress Reader has horrible recent updates to it, and I’m about ready to haul the entire WordPress engineering crew out of a huge window.
Girl YESSSSS! I’m here for it. Getting in my attic on Monday to pull out everything Christmas!

I’m in disbelief that 2021 is already almost over. Time is moving fast and the holidays seem to move it faster.
btw, to my inexpert eye, I still think your poem still looks good in Reader!

Thank you kindly. I don’t like the way it looks in the Reader. But, I’ll take it.

I’m not ready either, not with everything that Dad is going through. I can’t stand the idea of him being in a nursing facility during the holidays, even if we plan to be with him. Not sure how that’s going to work, but what I’m trying to accomplish is getting him in a more homey feeling facility as soon as possible. I hate where he is, even though he is getting adequate rehab and care. If he moves to skilled nursing and starts getting ignored, he’s out of there!

Not quite ready for Christmas, but excited to have the family together. As an aside, I can’t stand the WordPress changes.

Yes, it does flatten everything out in the reader!

The reader has been glitchy the last few weeks. I’ve noticed. I don’t like the changes that have been made.
