from his mouth comes
words that pummel
and prick,
calls you, “really good friend”
and you shrivel into
your body, disappearing for days.
you know your lane.
you stay in it.
they handpick the pretty girls
with taut breasts, full lips,
and better vision.
you tell yourself it is
your career choice,
your pregnant opinions
on life, love, and money.
you look in the mirror
and see the opposite of allure.
in your belly, you carry his words,
pressed into your back, kneeing
your bladder.
you convince yourself that it
is a loss on his part,
but deep down, you know
you are not the lover
he seeks, just the friend
who changed with him
for two decades, but
loyalty does not
open any doors.
so you fade into darkness
from the words you have heard,
from his space
and he wonders
why you are cut in half,
drained of love,
running away from
him.
“Highly sensitive people are too often perceived as weaklings or damaged goods. To feel intensely is not a symptom of weakness, it is the trademark of the truly alive and compassionate. It is not the empath who is broken, it is society that has become dysfunctional and emotionally disabled. There is no shame in expressing your authentic feelings. Those who are at times described as being a ‘hot mess’ or having ‘too many issues’ are the very fabric of what keeps the dream alive for a more caring, humane world. Never be ashamed to let your tears shine a light in this world.”

TrE, this is so well written. From the heart, and so poignant. I’ve tried to never regret having loved, and felt. Grateful that I can feel that intensely. Eventually someone comes along who deserves that intensity and can match it. Big hugs to you!!!

Wowwww! Tre, you have done this so very deeply and wholly beautifully, I am blown!
The Great Big love is so misunderstood, boxed in restrictive, conservative, reduced perspectives. Soul interactions lost on the conditioned human minds.
I relate to your note own highly sensitive people, refuse to feel dumb, stand alone tall with all the feelings on my sleeve. No value in numbing down the aliveness I am gifted with.

You put this more eloquently than I’ve ever seen….ever. At age 53 now, there is not a single woman I know who has not heard those words and been (what You said!) by them. All of us have had our hearts broken by those words. And actually sitting here thinking, most men I know have been on the receiving end of them as well. Oh God! And given enough time, You’ll most likely be the one having to tell someone that by the time You’re my age. It Sucks to be on either end of that conversation. Beyond. If this is coming from experience, and God, You made me cry so it feels as such….as trite as this sounds, don’t let this situation define You as a woman. You are BEAUTIFUL and I promise the right man will see You, know You and want You as His Love and Lover. In the best, most highest way. And if You were just writing off the cuff, imagining what that must feel like….I say….You are GENIUS and You nailed it!!! Thank You, either way, for sharing Your amazing heart. Huge Hugs! 🙂
